Have you ever try fresh Turkish apple tea?
Although Turkey mostly drink sugary tea, also very popular in this country is natural apple tea, especially among tourists. This tea is inspired by the noise, color, hustle and bustle of Turkish bazaars where tourists and locals alike enjoy tea from beautiful tulip shaped glasses. It has a mild taste and it is caffeine free, so it is recommended for kids.
On a markets in many countries can be found instant apple tea so you just need to put it in hot or cold water. But because these instant versions often contain sugar, we are going to show you how to prepare apple tea , same as they do in the kitchens of Turkey.
- 5 big apples
- 1 litter of water
- little cinnamon
- Wash the apples, let them dry then chop them into a thin pieces.
- Put the apples on baking paper and place them in hot oven.
- When the apples are dry on top, you can turn them and repeat the procedure.
- Boil the dry apples with a little cinnamon for around 10 minutes and let them stand another 10 minutes.
- Strain the apples.
The color of this tea depends of the color and the quantity of apples. If you already do this, it would be good to make a larger amount so you can eat it as a healthy chips for you and your children.
This traditional version of the national drink of Turkey is great served hot as a midday or afternoon break, or you can serve it iced in summer for cool refreshment.
